Because the choice is so wide, it is worth picking on the right criteria. For height - anything with a slide or a tall themed unit - go to the YMCA sports halls or Boughton Monchelsea. For convenience on the eastern estates, Grove Green. For a traditional village hall atmosphere, Detling, Langley, Lenham or East Farleigh. For something more polished with a disco built in, the Cornwallis Suite.

Whichever you pick, get the clear height beneath the lowest beam or light fitting rather than the roof apex, and check the width of the door you will be bringing equipment through. Standard castles need 10ft (3.05m).

Village lanes and rural access

Something specific to the ME17 and rural ME14 bookings that does not apply anywhere else on our round. The lanes around Boughton Monchelsea, Langley, Lenham, Detling and East Farleigh are narrow, high-hedged and occasionally single-track with passing places. We drive them regularly and it is not a problem, but two things help enormously:

• A what3words location or a good landmark description if your property is set back from the lane or shares an unnamed driveway. Satnav is unreliable on some of these roads.
• Somewhere to stop for 20 minutes. If there is nowhere to pull in near your gate, tell us - we will plan a longer carry rather than discovering it on the morning.

Rural gardens are usually the largest we work in, which is the upside. Do check for overhanging branches above your intended pitch, since our taller units need genuine clearance above as well as around them, and watch for orchard or paddock ground that is uneven under the grass.

Big events, fetes and school fairs

Maidstone gives us more school fairs, village fetes and community days than anywhere else we cover, and we are set up for them. Our assault courses and larger slide units are designed for continuous use by a queue of children rather than a single birthday party.

For an event booking we will want to talk through the site in advance: surface, anchoring, power or generator, supervision, and the paperwork your school or committee needs. We provide risk assessments and insurance documentation as standard, and we would rather sort all of that a month out than the week before.

Town-centre and estate gardens

Closer in, the constraints are the familiar ones. Shepway, Tovil and the older Maidstone streets often have narrow side access - we need roughly 3ft clear at the tightest point, allowing for bins and meter boxes. Grove Green, Weavering and the newer Bearsted developments tend to have flat but compact lawns, so measure the usable grass before choosing a unit. Barming, Allington and Penenden Heath sit on slopes in places, and a castle needs a reasonably level pitch to be safe.

Where the only flat area is a patio, we anchor with sandbags rather than pegs - just tell us the surface when you book so we bring the right kit.

Prices, range and timings

Themed castles start at £90 and toddler soft play packages at £150, with combined party packages and add-ons available for bigger occasions.

Maidstone is at the southern edge of our round, so we schedule it deliberately. Garden deliveries run 7am to 11am with collections 5pm to 8pm; if you need a particular slot, especially out in the villages, say so at the booking stage. Hall hires are timed to your venue's access and clear-down. Overnight hire in a secure garden is available for an additional charge and is often the sensible choice for rural addresses.

Safety and insurance

Every inflatable we own carries an annual PIPA or RPII inspection, all electrical equipment is PAT tested, and we hold £5 million public liability insurance as BIHA members. Maidstone borough halls and parish committees are among the most thorough about documentation of anywhere we work - ask us and the certificates will be with you the same day.

Yes. All of ME17 and the surrounding villages are part of our normal delivery area.

Which Maidstone venue can take your biggest inflatables?

Maidstone YMCA at Tovil. Its sports halls have the height and floor area for our largest assault courses and high-slide units, which most community halls cannot accommodate.

Can you do our school summer fair?

Yes, and we do several each year. Contact us early so we can look at the site, agree power arrangements, and get your risk assessment and insurance paperwork in place.

Is there a delivery charge for the villages?

No surcharge for our standard Maidstone coverage area. If you are right at the outer edge, ring us and we will confirm before you book.

Do you have a hall in Maidstone with a disco area already?

The Cornwallis Suite has a dedicated disco area, which saves hiring one in. If you would rather bring the disco to the party, a disco dome inflatable does the same job in a hall or garden.

How much ceiling height do I need?
